Important Mentalism Techniques

Posted: April 20, 2010 in Mentalism

If you’ve ever watched The Mentalist then you’ll be very familiar with what a mentalist can do, and this blog may well be very useful to you. If you’ve never watched this program then you should still be able to take some bits out of this article, however it wont be quite as beneficial to you.

If you’re someone who knows what they need to know about Mentalism and you’ve practiced the tricks in front of the mirror and think you’re pretty good at them, but you still lack the confidence to actually show them off to people, then you may want to pay close attention to this next paragraph. Many people may get as far as learning the tricks of Mentalism, Cold Reading, Warm Reading (something I will discuss during my next article) but they still lack the confidence of actually performing them, they fear of being ridiculed if they get it wrong.

If you’ve ever watched The Mentalist and you’re a big fan of the show and Patrick Jane, then you’ll know what Jane is likely to do in certain situations. When it comes to performing, put yourself into his mind set, imagine you are Jane and ask yourself what he would do? I’ve found that this can actually boost your confidence to the point where you just go ahead and do it. Once you’ve performed the tricks once, when it comes to doing it again you’ll have more confidence in yourself and your own learned abilities.

If you’ve never watched The Mentalist, then the best advice I can give you is to just go for it. Chances are, if you make a mistake your audience wont even realize it as long as you just keep going, the end result will probably even surprise yourself.

I plan to delve deeper onto Cold Reading and how you can improve your accuracy in future articles, I’ll also be discussing Warm Reading which to no surprise to you, is the opposite to Cold Reading.
